I can't help but wonder
what heartfelt fortune
would be like
laying down beside you
not as a celebrated lover
but as a cherished friend
I can't help but ponder
if we might touch
sometime in that night
if we might kiss each other
I can't help but imagine
if that sort of touch felt right
if love would allow
its famous bite
to let us make love
exciting one another
love reminding us
of its fanatical contagion
would passion dare
to dim that bedroom light
or with blazing delight
would we even care
I can't help but reason
if on that desirous night
all our tender words
be truth as well as sorrow
if our needy hearts
might somehow find strength
unite our gentle sighs
until our morrow's light
expressing heartfelt highs
into the soulful dawning
I can't help but dream
our beating hearts
soundly bound together
our heady thoughts
tasting blessed cream
our ready kisses
love's sweet poetry
we would write
just for that one
fleeting loving night
just like finding home
founded in that wonderful
intoxicating dream
