all those subways
below some surface
running along
steel rails
under Boston
snaking along
beneath New York
shaking up
this human race
beneath Montreal
revealing something
a myriad of sublime
under Edmonton
that twisting
stressed out
human face
below Sydney
in New South Wales
a constant throng
of working people
struggling daily
to just get along
all that underground
tunnels going
funneling someplace
under merry old London
trundling somewhere
running in time
along all those
hardened steel tracks
those unpardonable
grid patterns
a rumbling noise
those subway lines
maybe earthworms
have it right
constantly tunneling
here and there
a survival fight
maybe people too
compare to that
just trying
to get someplace
that matters
some unknown place
where someone cares
what if
we dug deeper
try to find
not even
something new
but something
good and true
I can't help but wonder
having traveled
all those
subway trains
having imagined
what else
could be
those cramped
and rumbling
subtle lanes
would somehow
take us all
to that
perfect place
where we all
could have
a perfect view
of knee jerk life
and respectful living
on this planet
a perfect place
where freedom
truly exists
where people
in general
were kind
and giving
instead of
all this
human sorrow
so many people
borrowing and scrambling
each and everyday
just trying
to make
ends meet
just trying
to find
something in life
where love
shows its face
where life
is perhaps
full of grace
all those subways
we travel
all that underground
beneath our feet
where dreams
try to come true
where human spirit
seeks and searches
every single day
hoping that in time
we'll catch that train
which takes us back
to where we
once belonged
to that special place
where everything
wasn't always
so intolerable
where so many things
always seem to go
so damn wrong
