when the war was over
enemies still drowned us
in rivers of their hate
when bombs stop falling
desperation it seems
a hopeless fate
is it curtains
before the last act
plays out
before this ornamental year
has contemptibly ended
humanity's brash will
dissecting all
these thoughts and words
blending cosmic light
throughout the universe
bending galaxies and stars
as God first intended
making each awesome day
race awkwardly by
chased by rash reason
belief without meaning
a special date
on every moonlit night
realizing one compassionate swirl
contrite calling out for hope
once empathy has fallen
so many are not coping
in a hopeless world
prostrated and praying
seeking sacred bonds
as spatial volcanoes erupt
while oceans continue to collapse
retrace our physical synapse
begin with that planetary spark
endings that often seem abrupt
one paradigm after another
all this stark reality
molding our wounded souls
marking sheltered frailty
while dark corruption
leads the dysfunctional way
from beachhead
to foreign beachhead
strife along these caustic storm fronts
still huddled congregations
feeling betrayed
bundled together
high alert
trying to survive
war in this damaged universe
muddled and bloodied together
where killing fields
of broken bodies lay
