how much freedom
does greed and war bring
how much humanity
less truth and justice
can goodness rise
above war's dark profanity
can compassion and light define
morality and divinity
can enlightenment
revealed in real earth time
heal war's crimes
rebel against war's evil insanity
can there be
revelation in destructive climes
can there be
elevated reasoning
in any warring season
where nothing
is ever easy
simply nothing
majestic or divine
