When night fell,
I fell too,
Tumbling from that resting place,
That plenitude of late afternoon,
Those gentle hours,
Peace upon my face,
Such an anomaly,
Clouds recite a spiritual homily,
We can't help ourselves,
Words shall ne'er suffice,
No matter how deep we delve,
Holiness shall never reveal its device,
Ne'er ope that sacred book,
Kept upon a sacred shelf,
God knows there is no point,
This mixed-up human race,
All gooey yet unglued,
Not knowing what is real or true,
For children can only wonder why,
Dream of what certainly must be a lie,
Life's dream of what human kind must try,
Beyond the night,
Where silence fell,
Beyond the blight,
Where justice dwells,
So eternal light,
Beyond all that erring dark,
Gobbled up by time and space,
Until morning comes,
When the sun decides life is worth it,
So we commit to daylight,
We wake and fight,
Surviving all this daily life,
Enduring all that is so counterfeit,
Still we fall,
Resurrected again and again,
Walking and talking,
Roaming this earthly plane,
One day following another,
Always into night,
Forever into dreams,
Love and life and lovers,
Alpha and omega marks us,
So we embark,
No matter what the fuss,
We love all those songs of Meadowlarks,
We fear predators and heartless sharks,
Still the restful night comes,
Restless stars are summoned,
Galaxies revolve around the boundless centre,
Evolving around a restive pinpoint,
Where night meets day,
Where dreams meet each reality,
Where light reveals eternal night,
Where sacred reveals divinity.

You haven't called in over five weeks,
Somehow time plays tricks,
Seems like months since I've heard your voice,
On Tuesday I thought of you,
On Wednesday you called,
Hesitantly answering,
A beckoning ring,
"Hello",
We spoke like old friends,
Listening between the lines,
You don't surprise me anymore,
I guess I'm aware of at least some of your trends,
All your words reveal all the signs,
I'm the mat beneath your feet forever more,
I've hung aromatic garlic from the garden,
Freshly bundled on my porch,
Just to stay love's vampires,
Keep them safely away from my hovel door,
Still what I did,
Crossing deep vast oceans,
Scaling snowy mountain peaks,
Writing all those tender poems,
Remembering your sweet surrendered kiss,
So much honest emotion,
Only true lovers hear true love speak,
All those remembered perfumed dreams,
All that love and tender bliss,
So I fall it always seems,
Estranged by love and all of this.
