That prophetic day
When the sea spoke to us
You closed your eyes
You turned away
There wasn't much fuss
Everything we left unsaid
All those things we had disguised
Nothing wise left to say
We've both been wounded
We know that now
We've both bled
Still somehow
Something about that final day
I remember wishing you might stay
But cautious love had torn you away
That simple pathetic day
You closed your heart
You turned to cry
Every angry tear
Tore us further apart
All those things we used to hide
Nothing left now
Not even a quiet sigh
We're done sounding off
We've both run dry
Something about that coming night
I simply remember
Wishing this wasn't real
But nothing ever felt right
Now that forsaken night
I remember all the tears we both had cried
Trying regrettable feelings
Nothing left when love died
Honesty wouldn't let us hide
When the darkness lifted
All those lilac kisses
When the clouds dissipated
That last rose of autumn dawn

Displacing our pot of gold
All those fateful love misses
Reptile love lifting it's sated head
Bold snake eyes that dissed us
Coldly never blinking
Instead thinking distrust
Thrusting a pricking fork
Mistrust that split tongue
As love's jury was hung
True love simply hissed
