there's that
gut wrenching
realization
that you
no longer
love that person
you have
been with
for such
a long time
that sickening
feeling
knowing
your marriage
is over
your partner
has left you
you too
have left
bereft of true love
that hefty weight
weighing
on your shoulders
don't let it
break you down
all that fear
you feel
dread in your bed
chewing
at your heart and soul
what a catastrophe
don't let this
emotional landslide
fill up your head
immovable rocks and rubble
drastic plastic clutter
those tarnished trophies
old rancid butter
smearing up your mantel
can't begin
to describe
the real you
you're so much more
than marriage
or partners
or children
or relationships
could ever be
realize your upcoming
internship
you are finally
in a position
to be truly free
makes you wonder
even if your marriage
was a ruddy blunder
change can be good
letting go
unchains you
from that painful universe
you willingly
checked in to
surrendering to vows
and this is how
it's going to be
where you existed
always hoping
love would come
to take your hand
walk with you
dance with you
music played
by your favorite band
it's hard to give up drinking
so difficult quitting smoking
how impossible to stop loving
that other person
crowding
all your thinking
that ego stroking
once it has
flown away
it's time
repaint
that flaking house
you forsakenly live in
racehorse time
replant your self
new rich humus
humorous new roots
will flourish and grow
feel your flow
a new creative way
but it's so hard
feeling empty
brokenhearted
going hungry
existing on
an empty stomach
but starving
just surviving
is never fun
nothing marvelous
can be said
about failed relationships
perhaps when you wake up
penitent tomorrow
the sun will shine
birds will sing
flowers shall bloom
beneath grand trees
deep forests where beauty dwells
that ancient sea of love
will find you
enjoy the changing tide
discover intricate sea shells
salty water rushing in
we're on this
orange crush ride
we can run
but we can't
always hide
we can close our eyes
while the burly earth
persists below us
but defy this
unfurling heaven's love
resounding with rebirth
sweet mountain dew
rich chocolate fountains
ice cream floats delivered from above
